The future of digital literature?

Let’s end these instalments of Literature and Media posts with a conversation as to the future of literature. That is, just how far are we expecting digital literature and media to develop? 



What if we end up in a reality like Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One? Could traditional literature be replaced by the worlds created in virtual realty? Who needs to read Sherlock Holmes when you could be a famous detective yourself? Why read Lord of the Rings when you can adventure with the One Ring in your free time?


Do we have a scary or exciting future ahead of us? Personality, I think (and hope) they’ll always be a want for traditional literature. However, literature will always develop. Especially with the rapid pace of today's technology.  


Is there a traditional story you’d like to experience in a virtual reality? Or do you think we shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken?

Dystopian fiction is often one of the classic genres many bookworms know and love. The capability to comment socially, culturally and politically on a fictional world - that at times reflects on our own - is a talent of authors that is without a doubt borderline magical; ultimately evidential of their skill and awareness of life. Aldous Huxley's Brave New World is no exception, and certainly deserves its classification of a timeless Dystopian staple we all need on our shelves.  Admittedly, I was sceptical to start Brave New World as I knew many consider it one of the great fictional works, similar to George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm -  two texts I already adore - and I was anxious about taking on a world that is already well established in the critical community. Welcome to Bookster!

Well hello there everyone!  Allow me to welcome you to the Bookster Blog. Your one-stop shop for any book-related discussion. To give you some context as to who I am and the nature of this blog I'd like to dedicate this first post to a 'subtle' introduction.  (I'll try my best) I am a current English Literature student at the University of Roehampton and plan on using this platform to open up discussions about how texts you may never have read, or know all to well, can relate to our modern lives. Although this is has come from an assignment 😑, I intend to help bring authors, texts, themes, characters etc into the everyday. Bookdate! - Welcome Back!

Hello everybody! Welcome back to Bookster Blog! It’s been a while since we last spoke. So, let’s jump straight into updates and what's been going on. Originally, I had planned to be active across my 2nd year at University; giving regular updates on the course and content. However, I’ve found that to be unrealistic and instead have decided that, during the summer, I’ll be taking you on a little academic journey on my projects from this year.  It’s been nice to have a little rest from posting, but, you may (or may not be) glad to hear that I will be back for the next few weeks! Think of this as a sneak preview for what’s to come.  If you remember the first few posts on Bookster, the blog was initially started as a result of an assignment.
